But what can I do to  protect my computer.  There are lots you can do yourself.

The steps are simple to do and if we could get everyone to just do the simple stuff we could put a big dent into protecting all our computers.

1. Install all the systems security updates and patch.
2. Install and keep updated an Anti-Virus software program.
3. Scan you computer with an Anti MalWare program.

These 3 simple steps can go a long way to protecting your computers.
It doesn’t matter if your computer is used at home or at the office.

Start doing these steps today.

First: You want to start by updating your computer to the most current Security updates from Microsoft.   This is a great first step.  If you are using Windows XP, just click “Start” and then the “Control Panel” look to the left for the link called “Windows Update” and click on it.

Second: Scan your computer with Anti Virus program.

We have withdrawn the Trend Micro Link from this article.  We found that it was hard to get running.  Good company but there online scanner needs work.

So instead we are listing two online scanner we tested out and found them to be much easier to use.

1. Kaspersky Labs  Scan for Virus
2. Panda   Active Scan
3. Symantec Norton Security Scan

Third:  Scan you computer for MalWare.  You may not even know you have it.  MalWare can be even worst then getting a computer virus.  It can slow down your computer and even send out spam email without you even knowing it.  The best program I have found and we use it all the time to help remove MalWare from computers brought into for repair, is MalWareBytes.  You can download it and install it for free.

You should download, install and run it now.  It’s free, but you have to do the updating and scanning manually.  You can purchase the program for $24.95 a year and it will update the program and scan your computer automatically.   Don’t be put off, thinking you have to purchase this program.  Download it and use it for free.  We suggest you purchase it, but that is up to you.

You can complain all you want about all the bad stuff that can happen to your computer, virus, spam, malware and more.  But you have to be the first line of defense for your computer.

Change Your Admin Password.  Its the easist and simplest thing to do.

There are some tricks you need to know in picking a good password…

What you should do with your password…

• Always Use a complex password. 
• Always Use Upper and Lower case letters
• Always Use numbers in your Password
• Always Use special characters in your Password
• Always make your password at least eight long. Longer is better
• Always Change your password on a regular schedule.

What not to dowith your password…

• Never use a password that is the same as the login name
• Never use your name in your password
• Do not use a word that can be found in the dictionary
• Never have a password less than 8 characters in length
• It simple, don’t tell anyone your password

How do I make a good password?
NOTE: These are only example and you should not use them yourself.

Mix up some letter and number to start.  How about “ilike2blog”.
This is a very good starting point.  It has letters and numbers.

Let change it a little.   “ILike&25BLoG”  This become a even more complex password.

The two example above on a scale of 1 to 5 would be 3. 

But let create a password that would be a 5 or very complex.

This password is a very complex password and very hard for anyone to guess.

So what you want to do today is, change your WordPress Admin password and make it a complex password.

You can set the Post to show up anytime in the future, whether it’s minutes from now or months from now.

You already know how to post to your blog. 

Here’s how to set it to show up in the future…

Once you written your post, look to the right side of the screen.

1. Find the section called Publish, and the Line that says “Publish immediately”
2. To the right you will the text “Edit”  (Note: is will be in blue, like other links)
3. You can now edit the date and time to any date and time in the future.  Just edit the date and time  boxes for when you want your  Blog Post to be published.
4. Click the “OK” button.

That it.  Your Blog Post will be published at that time automatically 

Now go write some posts and schedule them to publish automatically to your Blog.

What should you be doing now? The same thing you were doing before. Protect yourself. Have a Virus protection program, run your anti-spyware program, block the spam before it get into your mailbox. Keep your programs up to date.

Update your operating system. This alone is one the most important this you can do to protect your computer. It doesn’t matter if you are running the Apple or Microsoft operating system. Keep your Windows computer updated with the most current patches. This may seem like work, but it is something that can prevent a lot of problem with your computer’s security. With Windows make sure do a Microsoft Windows Update. (Just open Internet Explorer and click on Tools then Windows Update. Do it now)
